There is no known origin for the word “flabbergasted”, but it somehow rests alongside shades of surreality, deception, and/or disbelief.
If you do feel flabbergasted and you do want to express that as such, the situation can’t be an urgent crisis, because clearly you have the presence of mind and luxury of time to use the word “flabbergasted”.
The surprise that precipitates this state is so extreme that the only word to do it justice sounds like a German car.
